Three men and three women were killed and at least 12 people were injured in a shooting that occurred in downtown Sacramento, California on Sunday at around 2AM. Police are saying that gang violence is at the center of this tragedy which involved at least five shooters.
Downtown Sacramento, typically a scene of partying and nightlife, became a crime scene of blood and broken glass. It was the worst mass shooting that ever occurred in Sacramento.
The incident started with a fight and involved multiple gunmen. A stolen gun was discovered at the site, and cameras recorded parts of the horrific scene. The shooting occurred while the street’s bars and nightclubs were closing for the night. Several social media videos and photos have been uploaded by the public and are being investigated to find clues about what occurred.
Later in the week, police arrested a 26 year old man and charged him with assault and possession of an illegal firearm. Two other men were arrested and charged with possession of illegal weapons, including a machine gun. One of the men already has a criminal record and was recently released from prison.
A homeless man, sleeping on the street, has been recognized for his heroism in protecting young women at the scene and bringing them to safety during the shooting. He recently was recorded telling his story, which has hit social media all week. The father of one of the women said he is dedicated to helping “Tim” get off the streets.
