A Memphis man, Quishon Brown, 43, allegedly set his dog on fire three weeks ago, resulting in the dog suffering burns on over half of her body.
On June 20, community members tried to save a dog that was running down the street on fire. Video taken shows the horrific scene.
Memphis Police said a surveillance video showed a man in the backyard of a home on Berkshire Avenue shortly before the dog ran from that same home and headed down the street.
An animal rescue group called Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, named the dog Riona and said she was set on fire after being doused with gasoline.
The rescue group posted frequent updates for interested community members, and offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the animal abuser.
On the evening of July 11, police were called to the home because they were informed that a man was threatening neighbors that he would retaliate if they gave videos or information to the police or reporters.
Brown was arrested but was released on bail.
The accused was arrested again this past weekend because he violated his bond.
He got another dog.
According to court records, a concerned person provided video evidence showing Brown with a new puppy, and a judge gave police a warrant to search Brown’s home.
Officers went to Brown’s Berkshire Avenue home looking for additional animals. They were unable to find any other animals in the home, but took Brown into custody for violating his bail.
Police have evidence that a person or persons helped get the puppy out of the house so it wouldn’t be found. Several vehicles were seen leaving the home.
According to neighbors, there may still be three dogs in the house.
Brown is now in jail without bond. He is due back in court on July 21.
Miraculously, Riona, whose real name is Queen, is expected to recover from her burns, after going through multiple surgeries.
A video on TikTok about the unfortunate dog got millions of views.
