The auction house, Sotheby’s, will be offering a fossilized dinosaur skeleton on July 28.
The Gorgosaurus skeleton is from a relative of T-Rex, but actually predated T-Rex by 10 million years, give or take a few thousand years. It roamed the planet about 76 million years ago. The lesser known Gorgosaurus lived in the western US and Canada.
The skeleton was found in 2018 in Montana. It’s about 10 feet tall and 22 feet long.
There are other Gorgosaurus skeletons in museums, but this is the first one being offered to the public for private collection.
Now you can buy your own dinosaur skeleton and display it in your living room, if you have the space. Or the money. The kids will love it.
“In my career, I have had the privilege of handling and selling many exceptional and unique objects, but few have the capacity to inspire wonder and capture imaginations quite like this unbelievable Gorgosaurus skeleton,” Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s global head of science and popular culture, said.
Sotheby’s estimates the skeleton will sell for between $5 to $8 million.
