On Thursday, an 85-year-old man approached a mother in a Winn Dixie supermarket in Port Orange, Florida.
He started up a conversation with her and at first, the mom, Lauren Benning, thought he was lonely and being friendly.
He made comments about how beautiful her eight-year-old daughter was and how he wished he had children of his own.
According to the Port Orange Police statement, the man, Hellmuth Kolb, followed the mom into the parking lot and said he wanted to buy her daughter for $100,000.
Turns out, the man is a Florida sex offender and has done this sort of thing before, according to his probation officer. He is on probation for trying to buy an eight-year-old child in Walmart in 2018 for $200,000. The Walmart incident was caught on camera.
The man is not allowed to have any contact with children.
Mr. Kolb was arrested for his intended indecent business transaction.
“He needs to be locked up and not allowed to be around our children,” the girl’s mother reportedly said.
