A bizarre discovery was found in a NYC apartment after police were called to perform a welfare check.
Police found an elderly man dead in a chair at an apartment on 101st Avenue in Cypress Hills. He had been dead for a while, at least a week. That wasn’t the strangest part. What was unusual was what was found in his apartment.
There were jars that were labeled as biohazards, plus schematics and drawings that had police concerned.
Police questioned why the man had been in possession of the schematics. Some of the documents contained information about chemicals that were supposedly in the canisters.
They were concerned enough to call in the Joint Terrorism Task Force and FBI, to investigate how the 75-year-old man died and what was in the sealed jars.
Police said that he had written on a piece of paper, “Warning – Danger. Don’t open this. Why die?”
Was he an eccentric or really harboring something dangerous in his apartment, where he lived alone?
Testing for toxic chemicals and radioactive substances turned out to be negative, so far, but the mystery is not solved.
Officials wore Hazmat suits in the apartment and while removing the man’s body.
It must have been very alarming to neighbors, but police determined there was no reason for evacuation (even though officials felt it was a good idea to wear a Hazmat suit).
An autopsy will be performed to see how the man died. He has not been identified publicly. Police believe the man was a military veteran.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force and FBI believe there is reason to investigate further. Will the public be kept in the dark, or will we learn if there were any dangerous goings-on in the apartment in Cypress Hills?
