Three people are dead, and at least one person was injured after a house exploded in Evansville, Indiana on Wednesday afternoon. At least 39 homes were damaged as a result of the explosion.
Evansville Fire Department Chief Mike Connely said the explosion had a 100-foot blast radius. The street was littered with glass, house insulation and wooden boards.

Chief Connely said the department had not yet confirmed how many houses were occupied at the time of the explosion because some of the houses were too unstable to enter. Eleven houses were damaged so severely that they were not safe to enter. Authorities worry that there could be more deaths or injuries, so the search still continues.
“There could be other victims. We have not completed our search. The buildings are not yet safe to enter,” Chief Connelly told a news conference.
Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the State Fire Marshal.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, and an investigation is ongoing.
