A man has been detained by the Albuquerque police who say that he is a suspect in the killings of four Muslim men, according to a tweet by Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina Tuesday.
“We tracked down the vehicle believed to be involved in a recent murder of a Muslim man in Albuquerque,” Medina tweeted. “The driver was detained and he is our primary suspect for the murders. We will update the media later this afternoon.”
Four Muslim men of Pakistani origin were shot between November 2021 and August 2022, with three of the killings occurring within the last two weeks.
Three of the victims, Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, 27; Aftab Hussein, 41, and Mohammad Ahmadi, 62, were “ambushed with no warning, fired on and killed,” according to police.
A fourth man, Naeem Hussain, 25, was found dead after attending the funeral service of two of the prior victims.
Police discovered a Volkswagen Jetta was involved in the homicides, and there are shell casings that provide some information. The Jetta led police to the alleged killer.
Police promise updates as the investigation continues.
