There’s a notorious bridge in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, that has been renamed the “Jaws Bridge,” because it was featured in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 hit movie thriller. It’s officially called the American Legion Memorial Bridge. The name Jaws Bridge is a little more exciting.

The bridge is a popular swimming spot and big signs in bold letters warn people not to swim there. It’s illegal to jump from the bridge.

It’s also very dangerous to swim at night, especially in a place that tells people not to swim there during the day.

On Monday, one swimmer, 26, was found dead and another, his brother, 21, is still missing after leaping from the bridge down into the waters.

The brothers were identified by a family spokesperson to reporters at the Boston Globe as Tavaughn Bulgin, 21, and Tavaris Bulgin, 26

Four friends had gathered to swim at the site at around 11:30 pm, and were later reported missing. Two were okay and found by the Coastguard.

The dead swimmer was found early Tuesday morning.

The police had been alerted by a 911 caller who was concerned about the swimmers, after one was seen in the water going under but not resurfacing.

Massachusetts State Police are being assisted by aircraft and boats, along with Edgartown Fire Department and Dukes County Sheriff’s Office personnel.

It’s unclear at this time how the swimmers disappeared and why the young man drowned. Officials are not implicating sharks at this time.
