A bicycle rider, who had decided to go out and enjoy an early morning ride on an Arizona desert trail on Saturday, made a gruesome discovery off the side of the road. She found an abandoned suitcase filled with the human remains of a woman.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the woman in the suitcase as Jennifer Beede, 39.

Arizona authorities have not given out many details surrounding Jennifer’s disappearance and subsequent death. Phoenix police confirmed that they are investigating the horrific death of Beede to determine the events leading up to the tragedy.

The cyclist found Jennifer Beede’s skeletal remains at around 6:45 am near Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway, about 35 miles north of Phoenix. The cyclist called 911 a few minutes later and proceeded to update her chilling discovery on the social media site Nextdoor.

According to Fox News, the woman wrote on the Nextdoor app that she came across a suitcase in the middle of the desert that she thought was just a piece of trash that someone had thrown away, but her curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to take a closer look at the suitcase. The cyclist said that she observed that the suitcase was damp, had a head inside, and thought she had seen other body parts sticking out from under the suitcase.

The witness had first encountered the suitcase as she was cycling the road earlier that morning, but it was a little dark outside, and she decided to take a second look inside while on her way home when it was already light out. She found the suitcase on a public trail about one hundred yards from the road.

When the police arrived, they confirmed the worst and told the cyclist they had confirmed that the suitcase had the body of a woman who had already died.

The police have not issued a name of any potential suspects or motives for the murder of the 39-year-old woman. Authorities aren’t saying how long Beede’s body had been on the side of the road.

According to locals, the trail receives a lot of foot traffic, which suggests that the suitcase could not have been on the trail for a long time.

Jennifer Beede’s friends took to Facebook after the police released her name, and paid tributes to her on her Facebook wall.

Nearly 4,400 unidentified bodies are recovered per year, and at least 1,000 of those found remain unidentified after more than a year.

The circumstances of Jennifer’s death are yet to be uncovered. She, and many of us, will be “alive” and remembered on social media forever.
