A gruesome discovery was found inside a suitcase in Indiana earlier this year, and the details are just coming to light.
Indiana State Police say they identified the remains of a young boy, Cairo Ammar Jordan, 5-years-old, of Atlanta, Georgia. He was found in rural Washington County.
The suitcase was a hard-shell type and had a Las Vegas design on the front and back, as per the police. A neighborhood resident hunting for mushrooms discovered the suitcase in April in a rural area and called 911.
The autopsy revealed that the boy died from an electrolyte imbalance that officials say was probably caused by a stomach virus. The Indian State Police said in a news release that the virus causes inflammation of the digestive tract and results in vomiting and diarrhea, which probably led to dehydration in this case.
The boy had no significant injuries that would have resulted from trauma, and his blood tests proved negative for drugs or poison.
The police suspect Cairo’s mother had a hand in his death, and have issued an arrest warrant for Dejuane Ludie Anderson, 37. She will be charged with murder, and child neglect resulting in death and “obstruction of justice,” according to the police statement.
Police are asking the public for help in apprehending Anderson. She is described as black, with short dark brown hair, about 5’5” and approximately 135 lbs. She may wear a wig or a hair extension. She was last seen in Los Angeles.
Suspicion of the boy’s mother derives from several clues, including things she said on social media. She made comments about her son being possessed by demons and needing an exorcism. This and other evidence prompted the Indiana State Police to pursue the probable cause affidavit for Anderson’s arrest.
Anderson reached out to an exorcist for help, and wrote: “…good day sir. I need to speak with you urgently. I have survived the death attacks from my 5-year-old throughout the 5 years he has been alive. I have been able to weaken his powers through our blood. I have his real name and he is 100 years old. Need assistance.”
In October, another woman, Dawn Elaine Coleman, 40, from Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested in connection with the boy’s death. It has not been clarified what connection this woman has to the family, but she was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice.
The affidavit says that mobile phones belonging to Anderson and Coleman were in the area where the boy’s body was dropped. Fingerprints on the suitcase are said to match those of the two women.
After Cairo’s body was found, in June he was provided a resting place by strangers, in Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, about 35 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky with a headstone with no name. A police chaplain led a memorial service and called the then-unidentified child an “unknown angel.”
Mourners who didn’t know the child felt moved by his unfortunate end and visited the cemetery and attended the service.
His name has now been added to his headstone.
