Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene Says She’s Had Discussions with Trump About Being His Running Mate

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the far-right House Representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district, told a reporter that she and former president Donald Trump were in ongoing talks about her possibly being his running mate come 2024 if he decides to run for the presidency.

Although the former president has not formally announced that he will be running in 2024, or mentioned anything about a potential running mate, he has continuously hinted at the possibility of joining the race again. Lately, Representative Greene has become a dominant figure at most of Trump’s events and rallies. She was also at the Saudi Golf Tournament, held in August at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

According to Robert Draper, a writer for the New York Times Magazine, who has interviewed Greene several times, she told him that Trump has brought up the conversation with her often. She also said that Trump craves the loyalty that Greene exhibits.

Speaking to MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, Draper continued to address Greene’s loyalty to Trump, saying that she has always had Trump’s back and has always been there for him.

Draper, the author of the book “Weapons of Mass Delusion: When the Republican Party Lost its Mind,” also believes Trump has been considering Greene joining his campaign as his running mate since early February.

He said that after Trump’s experience with his last running mate, former Vice President Mike Pence, it was obvious that Trump was going to prioritize loyalty over other qualities.

However, Draper jokingly added that even though the former president has been toying with the idea, he has had the same discussion with several other people.

Last week, Rolling Stone media reported that Trump was considering putting Greene in one of the top government positions if he won the 2024 presidential election. Though their sources did not know which specific job Trump had in mind for her, they speculated that it could be a White House staff position, an agency appointment, or a cabinet post. One source said that Trump is fond of Greene, and it was clear that he would want her close to him for a second presidential term.

In the field of right-wing conspiracy theorists, which has become very competitive, Greene is probably one of the most extremist far-right conspiracy theorists in the US Congress.

Greene, a supporter of the January 6 Capitol Hill attack and allegedly a QAnon follower, has continuously attacked any progressive legislation in the US, including women’s reproductive rights and the LGBTQ community’s civil rights.

She has publicly condemned President Biden’s plan to scrape student debts for working and middle-class Americans but helped herself to a pandemic subsidy of $180,000 made possible by US taxpayers.

Greene, reportedly anti-Semitic and racist, had said that she wants the US to be run by a Christian nationalist party. She was a speaker at a white nationalist conference in February this year.

The politician, who was anti-mask during the COVID pandemic, compared masks to the Nazi holocaust.

Last year, the House of Representatives removed Greene from her House committee assignments for making racist and anti-Semitic comments, spouting conspiracy theories and expressing support for Democratic leaders being executed.
