The Fresno, California police have arrested a 22-year-old woman and her 26-year-old boyfriend for a double murder of an 18-year-old mother and her three-week-old baby.
Fresno Police Department Chief Paco Bladerrama announced the arrest on Wednesday of Yarelly Solorio-Rivera and her boyfriend, Martin Arroyo-Morales, in the death of Yarelly’s sister, Yanelly, and her infant daughter.
The arrest is connected to an incident on September 24. According to a news release from the Fresno police department, officers were called to a home and found a mother and her child victims of multiple gunshot wounds. The woman had been shot in her bed while sleeping with her newborn daughter. The child and its mother were declared dead at the scene.
An investigation was carried out and it took several weeks for the suspects to be arrested. Police shared a video last week of a person leaving the house after the incident and one of the suspects was later identified. The two alleged killers admitted they had shot the young woman and her baby, and told police where they had left the firearm.
The police chief said the motive was “jealousy” and “sibling rivalry.”
The suspects are in Fresno County jail and both were accused of two counts of premeditated murder. Martin Arroyo-Morales is a known gang member.
If convicted, the pair may face the death penalty or life in jail without parole.
