Jay Leno Out of Hospital After Surgery Following Gasoline Fire

After having suffering serious injury in a car fire, American comedian and talk show host, Jay Leno, was discharged from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles on November 21, where he had been treated for his burns.

Leno, 72, was released and posed for photographs with the facility staff.

The hospital statement said that Leno had been in the hospital for ten days and would continue with follow-up visits, for burns on his face, hands and chest.

Leno’s physician, Dr. Peter Grossman, said he was satisfied with how the burns were healing and was optimistic that Leno would make a full recovery, although could not be sure about the extent of scarring.

Leno had two surgeries, as well as skin grafting procedures.

The incident occurred in Leno’s garage while he was working on a vintage car. The damaged fuel line had a leak, and a spark ignited the explosion which caused Leno’s burns. He was lucky that he had a companion nearby who succeeded in putting the fire out and saving his life.

The Burbank Fire Department press release states that the fire occurred at around 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 12. Officers from the fire department arrived at the garage, assessed Leno’s injuries, and treated him before transporting him to a local hospital.

Dr. Peter Grossman gave a statement last week after performing surgical excision and grafting on Leno, saying that the patient was in a good condition. He said that even though his face had sustained deeper and more serious burns, he had not found any evidence of nerve damage.

Leno, hosted The Tonight Show for several years, after Johnny Carson left. He is one of the best-known TV personalities in the US. The vintage car collector left the talk show to start a car show, Jay Leno’s Garage, and has a huge car collection and fan base.
