One Person Killed, 20 Injured After SUV Drives Into Apple Store in Massachusetts

One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a Hingham, Massachusetts Apple store, when a driver crashed his SUV into the store on Monday, November 21.

Bradley Rein, 53, was arrested and charged with “reckless homicide using a motor vehicle.”

Police received several 911 calls around 10:45 am that there had been a car crash at the Derby Street Shops Apple store. Emergency crews from the Hingham police and fire departments discovered a huge hole in the glass facade in front of the store, and a black Toyota SUV. Several people had been injured.

The man who died was Kevin Bradley, 65, from New Jersey.

Hingham Fire Chief Steve Murphy said the injured people in the store had been pushed up against the wall by the SUV. The speed of the SUV was uncertain.

“We dispatched fourteen ambulances and seven fire engines with teams from Hanover Fire department, the Plymouth County Tech Rescue and the Rockland Fire Department working together to assist the injured,” he said.

Some of the victims had life threatening injuries.

The trauma chief at South Shore Hospital, Dr Chris Burns, said some of the victims had undergone surgery and others would have to have surgery due to their serious injuries.

The driver told police he crashed because he couldn’t remove his foot from the gas and that it was an accident. Rein pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to reckless homicide by a motor vehicle and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, according to prosecutors. Rein will return to court on December 22.

The SUV was removed from the store at around 4 pm after investigators spent the afternoon securing the scene and gathering evidence.
