Teenager in Coma Dies After Road Rage Shooting in Dallas

A 14-year-old high school student from Dallas, Texas died on Saturday, November 19 from gunshot wounds suffered during a road rage shooting two months ago on a Dallas highway.

Gabriel Zamora, 14, died at 9 am on Saturday at a hospital in Dallas where he had been receiving treatment since he was shot on September 24.

The teenager’s older sister, Natalie Zamora, spoke to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Sunday, expressing her frustration that no one had been arrested in connection to the shooting. She said two people were inside a truck that cut them off and led to the shooting.

Around midnight on September 24, Mrs. Zamora, her husband, their twin babies, and her brother Gabriel were driving home after a fun night of bowling along the CF Hawn Freeway. Gabriel was sitting in the front passenger seat while Mrs. Zamora and her two babies were in the back seat.

Suddenly, a truck, which Mrs. Zamora described as a white 2008-2012 Chevrolet Silverado truck with a chrome rear bumper and blue LED headlights, drove onto the highway and cut them off. Mrs. Zamora’s husband honked at the car, and seconds later, the White Chevrolet pulled up next to their vehicle.

Someone inside the Chevy opened fire on them even before they could process what was happening. The mother’s first instinct was to shield her babies when the bullets started flying into the car.

Unfortunately, the bullets hit Gabriel Zamora’s head, torso, and arm. Mrs. Zamora’s husband did not realize that the boy was hit and attempted to follow the truck to get its license number. However, he gave up trying after his wife informed him that her brother had been shot.

Zamora was taken to the hospital, where he was in a coma for eight weeks. However, early last week, doctors told the family that the teen’s health had worsened, and they did not expect him to survive.

The 14-year-old, a freshman at the WT White High School in Dallas, was with his mother when he died.

Although the family was hoping that Gabriel would recover, they are now resolved to find justice for the teenager and are putting all their energy and focus into that fight.

Authorities are still looking for the suspected shooter, even though they have no updates on the case, as they still have not found the vehicle used by the shooter or the driver of the car. Authorities have not released any surveillance footage either.

As the Zamora family grieves, they are left with more questions than answers. Police say they have some tips, but no conclusive information at this point.

Since 2021, at least 17 people have lost their lives from road rage incidents, according to the Dallas Police Department.
