14-Year-Old Accused of Killing Cheerleader Will Remain in Solitary Confinement

Aiden Fucci’s lawyers might have done their best to get him out of solitary confinement, but they weren’t convincing enough and he’s staying where he is. Alone.

Alden Fucci was only 14 years old when he was accused of stabbing Tristyn Bailey, a 13-year-old cheerleader, 114 times on Mother’s Day in 2021. Her body was found near a retention pond in Durbin Crossing, south of Jacksonville, Mississippi. Security footage showed Bailey with someone who is believed to be Fucci at around 1:45 a.m.

“Karma” was written in blue ink on her left ankle while a smiley was drawn on her right ankle.

When Fucci was arrested, he posted a Snapchat photo while in the backseat of the police car and captioned it “Hey guys has inybody [sic] seen Tristyn lately?” while doing a peace sign. Police also found out that Fucci told some of his friends that he wanted to “take someone into the woods and stab them” making the police believe that he had the intention to kill.

The two young students went to school together at Patriot Oaks Academy.

Fucci is being tried for first degree murder and was placed in solitary confinement in Duval County since St. Johns County jail currently does not admit juveniles. He is being tried as an adult.

The now 16-year-old has been in solitary confinement for more than 400 days, out of the total 583 days that he is in custody. He was placed in solitary because of indications that he may be suicidal, and was receiving threats from others in the facility. In November, his lawyers filed a motion to try to get him to be transferred to another facility since solitary is known to cause psychological harm to inmates.

During a pre-trial hearing on Tuesday, Judge Lee Smith denied the multiple requests and said that they are working towards finding the “least restrictive” way to detain Fucci.

His mother, Crystal Smith, was also charged with tampering with evidence when she attempted to wash blood off of Fucci’s jeans. Both mother and son have pleaded not guilty to their crimes.

Fucci’s trial is scheduled to start on February 6, 2023.
