A well-know DJ and co-executive producer of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” allegedly shot himself on Monday at the age of 40, and left a suicide note.
Staff at the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California said Stephen “tWitch” Boss checked in on Monday but did not appear notably distressed. The hotel was about a mile from home. He checked in with a small bag, which police later found and confiscated. It contained a suicide note.
He only booked one night and didn’t leave by the designated check-out time, so hotel staff did a check on his room and discovered him dead in the bathroom in the morning Tuesday.
Boss’ wife, Allison Holker, had reported her husband missing to the police, because he had left the home without his car, and his phone was off, and she became concerned.
Los Angeles Police Department responded to the hotel after an ambulance crew attended to Boss’ body at around 11:20 am on Tuesday. Investigators determined that the star, known also for “So You Think You Can Dance” shot himself, and they found no indications of a crime.
“tWitch” left behind a suicide note that spoke about challenges he was dealing with, but police released no details.
Boss’ wife confirmed his death and said that Boss brought joy everywhere he went and loved his family, friends, and the community around him. He believed in spreading light and love, and he was the backbone of their family.
Boss was seen in the 2000s as a contestant in “The Wade Robson Project” and then in “Star Search,” where he was a runner-up. In 2008, Boss competed in the popular dance competition show, “So You Think You Can Dance” and finished as a runner-up. He later returned to the show as an All-Star. When the show returned this year, he participated as a judge.
Boss joined “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”in 2014 as a guest DJ and became a permanent DJ on Ellen’s show. In 2020, he became a co-executive producer.
In 2017, Boss spoke about how he overcomes problems in his life, saying that it helps him to know that life keeps going no matter what.
The suicide appeared to be a shock to many who knew him.
Ellen DeGeneres was among the first celebrities to pay tribute to the Boss. She wrote on Instagram that he was “pure love and light.”
Boss is survived by his wife Allison, 34, and their children, 14-year-old Weslie, six-year-old Maddox, and three-year-old Zaia.
