Emmy-Winning “Cheers” Actress Kirstie Alley Dead at 71

Kirstie Alley, 71, a two-time Emmy-winning actress,  died in Tampa on December 5, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.

While announcing her death on Twitter, her children, True and Lillie Parker said, “We are saddened to inform you that our fierce and beloved mother has passed away after a short battle with cancer which was diagnosed recently.”

The actress was surrounded by close family in her final moments. 

She was described as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. 

After displaying her acting ability in 1982 in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” Alley was seen in several movie roles. 

In 1987, she replaced Shelley Long’s character, Rebecca Lowe, in the TV classic sitcom “Cheers,” and continued the role for six years until its final season. In 1992, she earned her first Emmy for her outstanding performance in “Cheers.” In the late ’90s, she earned another Emmy for the series, “Veronica’s Closet.”

Alley also starred in memorable films, such as “Look Who’s Talking,” with John Travolta,  “Madhouse,” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous” with Ellen Barkin.

In 2005, Alley had a role on the Showtime comedy “Fat Actress,” and in a 2010 reality show entitled “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life” which documented her known struggle with weight issues. In an interview with Oprah, Alley said she confronted her weight problems after a parking valet asked if she was pregnant.

Taking to social media, John Travolta, who acted with Alley in the 1989 hit, “Look Who’s Talking, ” as well as two sequels, wrote, “Kristie was one of the most special relationships I have ever had. I love you, Kristie. I know we shall meet again.”
