On Thanksgiving day, an Orangeburg, South Carolina mom, Crystal Jumper, was found dead in her home by police and her five-year-old, Aspen Jeter, was missing from the home where she lived with her mom.
The news hit social media and concern went out for the little girl whose father, Antar Jeter, 47, had allegedly killed her mother. The girl is disabled, cannot walk and is nonverbal. Her family said she has a rare medical condition.
Police detectives had found Jumper’s body in a state of advanced decomposition stage, indicating that she was killed a long while before they made the gruesome discovery. They discovered the murder after Jumper’s cousin alerted police to do a welfare check on the home because she hadn’t heard from Jumper since November 1.
On Friday, December 9, the Sheriff’s office announced that they had located the girl, Aspen Jeter in Danville, VIrginia with her father, Antar Jeter. Police arrested the father in connection with Jumper’s death.
US Marshals took him into custody on murder and grand larceny warrants.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff, Leroy Ravenell, said during a press conference on Friday that the police found the father and child around 6:30 pm in Danville in a stolen vehicle.
Announcing that they had found the girl, Sheriff Ravenell said during the press conference that she was safe and appeared in be in good condition. He said that the child will be reunited with members of her mother’s family.
During the press conference, the family lawyer for the Jumper family, Justin Bamberg, thanked the police and the public for helping with the search for five-year-old Aspen and safely returning her to her family. He said that the family would care for the girl after the horrible experience and she would not be put into foster care.
