A shocking video shows a freight train crashing into a semi-truck at a railroad crossing and derailing in Tennessee Tuesday afternoon, December 20, 2022.
The tractor-trailer was carrying a 134-foot concrete truss bridge beam and got stuck on the railroad crossing.
After the collision with the tractor-trailer, the cargo train flew off the railway tracks. The Collegedale Police Department shared updates about the accident on Facebook.
Videos of the wreck show several train cars toppled on their sides in a wooded area near the railroad tracks.
Amy Maxwell, the spokesperson for the Hamilton County EMS, told reporters that the semi-truck was headed to a new construction site in Apison Pike and was carrying a huge concrete barrier, causing the accident.
It was reported that the truck driver was not hurt.
Maxwell confirmed that the Norfolk Southern train hit the construction truck, and ten boxcars and three of its locomotives derailed.
According to a media outlet in Chattanooga, Tennessee, paramedics rushed two train crew members involved in the crash to local hospitals with miraculously minor injuries.
Even though authorities reported that the train was leaking a huge amount of diesel fuel, it was determined to not be a hazardous threat to area residents.
Several local witnesses recorded the footage on their phones and posted the videos, which went viral on Twitter, with tens of thousands of views in just a few hours.
The Chattanooga Fire Department announced on Twitter that they were at the crash site along with several other agencies assisting. They were trying to stop the diesel leaking from two of the locomotives but determined that no other hazardous material was leaking from the train.
In September 2022, a train crashed into a police car near Platteville, Colorado, and caused a woman to suffer severe brain injuries. The woman was in the back of the police car that an officer had parked on the railroad tracks. An approaching train struck the vehicle and seriously injured the woman.
