A prominent California defense lawyer was vacationing with his wife at a luxury resort in Mexico for their first wedding anniversary. He was discovered dead after a fall.
Elliot Blair, 33, a lawyer in Orange County, died on Saturday, January 14 in Rosarito Beach, on the Baja Peninsula, south of Tijuana, Mexico.
Blair and his wife, Kim Williams, were staying at the Las Rocas Resort and Spa in Rosarito, a beach community in Baja. On January 14, the day before their anniversary, he was found dead after a fall from a balcony.
Mexican authorities say the lawyer fell from the balcony of the Las Rocas Hotel while he was drunk.
However, according to a GoFundMe page put up by friends of the family, Blair was not intoxicated. They allege that his death was not an accident, and they suspect that he may have been murdered.
Mexican authorities investigating the incident determined there was no “foul play.” The attorney general’s office in Baja released a statement that Blair suffered severe head trauma from his fall, and there were no signs of violence or attack on his body. They said their findings were based on an autopsy.
A colleague of Blair, John Jenks, who is a forensic addiction counselor and private investigator, worked on several cases and trials with Blair. He was shocked about his colleague’s death and praised him.
An attorney for the family, David Scarsone told the Orange County Register that there are “many unanswered questions” causing them to look deeper into the incident and question the story given by Mexican authorities.
