Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” hit the bookstore shelves and online sources in January, and was a bombshell.
In the eagerly awaited memoir, Prince Harry recalled a physical alteration with his brother, Prince William, the heir to the British throne, as their relationship took a bad turn after Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle.
In his description of the alleged fight, which he says occurred in 2019 in his London home while he was alone with his brother, Harry alleges that William accused Meghan of being “rude,” “difficult,” and “abrasive,” which, according to Harry, was the same narrative the British tabloids were using about his wife.
In an excerpt from the memoir, Prince Harry says that while talking, the situation got out of hand, and William grabbed him by the collar, ripped off his necklace, and knocked him down.
The fight, which Harry says resulted in visible cuts and bruises on his back, is just one of the many shocking incidents in the memoir “Spare,” which caused a much bigger rift within the family and gave more reasons for the British government and public to be annoyed with the bad press Harry is causing. Polls show that the Brits aren’t happy about Prince Harry’s revelations.
Speaking about the confrontation, Harry writes that his brother tried to talk about their deteriorating relationship and the problems they were having with the media. But according to Harry, when William visited him, he was already notably upset.
Harry defended Meghan when William insulted her and told his brother that he was only repeating the lies that the press was spouting, and that he was disappointed in William. He writes that William was unreasonable, and their discussion soon led to the physical confrontation, with the two brothers shouting at each other.
Harry says that William stepped toward him while swearing, causing him to retreat to the kitchen, but William followed him.
Harry says he tried to calm his brother down but William continued to insult him and physically assaulted him. Harry alleges that the future king grabbed him by the collar, ripped his necklace off, and knocked him to the floor.
Prince Harry landed on a dog food bowl, which cracked and cut him. He said he was speechless for a moment, and then he got up and told William to get out of the house. William urged Harry to fight back, but he refused. William left, but returned to the house later and apologized.
As William was leaving, he turned around and told Harry that he didn’t have to tell Meghan about the fight and what he said about her. Although Harry did not immediately tell his wife, she noticed that he had cuts and bruises on his back, so he told her the details.
According to Harry, Meghan was not surprised or angry but sad.
Two interviews with Prince Harry were aired in January, ahead of the release of the new book.
Harry, the Duke of Sussex spoke with ITV presenter Tom Bradby and accused his family of “getting into bed with the devil.”
In his interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, he said that his family even accused Meghan of being a witch, perhaps said in jest, but still hurtful.
Harry says that he is no longer in contact with his brother and father. Sources close to King Charles say that he is trying to reconcile with his younger son.
