Some may wonder if comedian Jay Leno has a death wish. First he, in his own words, “roasted” himself last year, and now he’s been back in the hospital and luckily recovering well.
Just months after the fire that burned his face in his vintage car garage in Los Angeles, and landed him in the hospital where he had multiple surgeries and skin grafts, Leno, 72, had a motorcycle accident last week and broke several bones.
The comedian, who was scheduled to begin performing again at the end of March in Las Vegas, said, “Then just last week, I got knocked off my motorcycle. So I’ve got a broken collarbone. I’ve got two broken ribs. I’ve got two cracked kneecaps.”
The accident occurred on January 17 when he was testing a 1940 Indian motorcycle. While riding, Leno realized the gear-head of the vehicle was leaking fuel, and detoured down a street with the intention with getting it checked out. He cut through a parking lot that had a wire blocking entry, which Leno didn’t see because it didn’t have a sign or a flag on it. He was knocked off the bike and suffered multiple injuries.
When asked by media why he was just telling the public about the accident now, one week later, he said he didn’t want to “add more fuel to the fire” (a comical reference to his prior accident in the garage).
Leno, still able to laugh about his misfortunes, said, “You know, after getting burned up, you get that one for free. After that, you’re Harrison Ford, crashing airplanes. You just want to keep your head down.”
