The year 2023 is starting off with a literal bang – with mass shootings every day.
On Sunday, January 22, there were two shootings, including one in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Twelve people were injured at a nightclub, the Dior Bar and Lounge, at around 1:30 am.
Cops were outside the club when the gunfire started, and they entered the club right away. Paramedics tended to the injured and they were rushed to the hospital.
According to officers, nine of the people shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but three had injuries that were considered serious and life-threatening.
A local hospital reported that by 2:30 pm on Sunday, three patients were in critical condition, two of the injured were in stable condition, and the hospital had released one person.
The shooting was determined to be a targeted attack and a single shooter was on the loose.
Police Chief Paul said one of the people injured was the disk jockey at the club and that the club’s owners were cooperating with the investigation.
At a press conference on Sunday, Chief Paul asked anyone who knows something about the incident to say something and save other people, as it was obvious the gunman had no regard for human life.
The Mayor of Baton Rouge, Sharon Weston Broome, said the attack was “a senseless act of violence.”
The Baton Rouge shooting happened only hours after a shooting on Sunday at a California dance studio following Chinese New Year celebrations. That incident resulted in 10 people being killed and 10 injured.
