Baby Found Alive in Home Near Two Dead Police Officers

It was a sorrowful day for the Detroit police when they discovered the bodies of two fellow officers in the couple’s apartment.

The Detroit Police Department announced that the officers’ bodies were discovered in their Livonia residence and that information gathered by detectives pointed to a murder-suicide.

Chief of Police James White reported the deaths at a news conference. The press conference was conducted in the parking lot of the apartment complex in Livonia, where the incident occurred.

The Livonia police responded to a call about a well-being check at the residence. Two off-duty police officers, identified as Matthew Ethington II, 26, and Maria Martin, 22, were found dead at the home with gunshot wounds by responding cops.

According to the Livonia Police Department, officers also discovered an infant in the residence. Unharmed, the youngster was placed in the care of a family member.

Chief White stated that the Detroit Police Department would not be conducting the investigation, despite the fact that he and several officers from his agency were present at the crime scene. Instead, the Livonia Police Department is leading the inquiry.

At the briefing, Chief White described the situation as a “tragic and sad course of events.”

In a Facebook-posted briefing, the Chief stated that it appeared to be a domestic disturbance. He stated that initial investigations led them to believe it was a murder-suicide, and there was no proof to the contrary.

The autopsy found that Martin died from multiple gunshot wounds, and Ethington was killed by a single bullet.

Captain Greg Yon of the Livonia Police Department extended sympathies to the victims’ families and the Detroit Police Department.
