According to a recent inquest, an Irish man who had been diagnosed with cancer and was in remission died as a result of a vicious fowl assaulting him in his farm house, the Irish Examiner reported.
Jasper Kraus died in April of last year after suffering serious wounds as a result of a chicken attack.
At a hearing to ascertain the cause of the man’s death, Detective Garda Eoin Browne said that Kraus’ tenant in Killahornia, Ireland, had told him about the incident. Kraus was given CPR by first responders, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kraus was discovered on the ground in a pool of blood with blood streaming from cuts on the back of his leg, according to Detective Browne.
Virginia Guinan, Kraus’ daughter, claimed that when she went to the house earlier in the day, she noticed her father sleeping. Since she knew that he was still ill and taking medication, she didn’t want to wake him up.
Later that day, Corey O’Keeffe, her father’s tenant, called the daughter to let her know about the attack. Her father was seen lying in a pool of blood when she arrived at the house. The TV was on, and a cigarette was still burning.
A blood trail leading to the chicken coup was visible, and one of the birds had blood on its beak and claws, the daughter testified before the court. She was convinced that the chicken that had killed her father was the same one that had been moved to the farm after attacking her daughter a few months earlier.
According to O’Keeffe’s testimony in court, he got home at 8 am, fed the animals, and then went to bed. He heard Kraus crying for him and quickly attended to him and saw the wounds.
He followed the operator’s instructions to perform CPR on Kraus for over 25 minutes prior to the arrival of the ambulance crew.
Kraus was ruled dead at 3:24 p.m. despite paramedics’ best efforts to save him, according to testimony by Dr. Annette Jennings.
