A 14-year-old teenage boy was beat up outside a California high school and the brutal attack was filmed on someone’s cell phone.
The boy’s parents are asking police why no arrests have been made and are accusing the police department of downplaying the attack on their son.
The freshman was kicked, hit and stomped on by three boys outside the Patriot High School in Jurupa Valley after school on Wednesday, February 1.
The boy’s cousin tried to help him but one of the attackers threatened him with a knife.
The boy’s mother, Martha Payan, said she was shocked when she saw the video of her son getting beat up with no intervention from school staff to break up the attack.
Speaking to a news outlet, Mrs. Payan said the attackers were stomping on her boy’s head while he was lying in the fetal position on the ground helpless.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has not arrested any of the attackers even though they have footage of the attack. The school district only responded to the media about the horrific footage on Tuesday, February 7, after a local news outlet published a report of the incident.
The boy’s father, Angel Payan, said the group of attackers had been threatening his son and that the incident stemmed from a dispute over an Instagram post his son made about his ex-girlfriend. The teen then started getting threats on the social media platform from people who did not attend his high school.
According to the father, his son received a message from someone informing him that he was at Patriot High School on the day of the attack.
The high school principal informed the father the same day that his son had been the victim of an attack outside the school. Payan said he was heartbroken when he saw his son covered with bruises on his nose and head.
The school informed other parents about the attack, but only six days later, when the video began to circulate on social media, and said they were cooperating with the Sheriff’s department.
On Tuesday, February 7, the Sheriff’s department said an investigation was in progress.
