A college student from New Jersey died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony while vacationing in Mexico during spring break.
Henry Meacock, 19, a student at Ohio State University, died on March 15, according to his obituary.
An Ohio State University spokesperson said at the time that Meacock had been studying for an undergraduate degree in finance.
Meacock was on vacation at the Melia Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, over spring break when he fell from the third floor.
The Jalisco Attorney General and the medical examiner believe the victim’s death was accidental. They said Meacock had been trying to jump from one balcony to another when he fell to his death.
The victim was reportedly trying to help a girl retrieve her phone or ID (according to different witnesses) that she had dropped from her balcony.
Numerous Facebook users said that Meacock had been trying to fetch something for a girl when he plunged to his death. Many users from his hometown of Westfield, New Jersey claimed he crashed through a Plexiglass platform trying to help out the girl.
According to one Facebook user, a girl in the room above his accidentally dropped her ID, which landed on plexiglass installed between the balconies.
While trying to help the girl, Meacock inadvertently stepped on the fragile plexiglass, which gave way under his feet.
According to other Facebook users, the 19-year-old student had been trying to retrieve a phone, not an ID.
Tributes on social media described Meacock as a real gentleman with the kindest and most genuine soul.
Meacock’s family and friends gathered on Saturday, March 25, for his funeral service at a Catholic church in Westfield.
Meacock was the second guest to fall from the third floor of the Melia Hotel this month. A 23-year-old man had a better fate and survived.
