Canadian Woman Found Dead In Mexican Hotel

A Canadian woman’s birthday vacation in Mexico ended tragically when she died in a resort hotel in Mexico. She was on a trip with her boyfriend, who has been detained in connection with her alleged murder.

Kiara Agnew, 23, was discovered dead on Friday, March 3, inside a laundry room at the Grand Sunset Princess Resort in Playa del Carmen, south of Cancun, just a day after arriving there with her boyfriend, Ryan Friesen, 26.

Mexican officials confirmed Friesen’s detainment after Agnew’s lifeless body was discovered in the hotel in the Xcalacoco neighborhood with evidence of violence on her body.

Charlotte MacLeod, the Global Affairs Office spokesperson, stated that representatives from her office were assisting both families and were in contact with Mexican police.

Agnew’s aunt, Katlyn Levesque, told a news source that her niece loved to travel and had been looking forward to her trip to Mexico with her boyfriend. The deceased woman was described by her as “driven, courageous, and vibrant.”

Levesque told the outlet that her niece’s autopsy results were still pending. The unfortunate woman would have turned 24 on March 11.

Friesen’s family refused to speak with journalists, but they have been in contact with Agnew’s family, according to Levesque. Friesen’s family was also in pain and unsure about what had happened.

The couple met in Dawson Creek, where Friesen plays junior hockey and Agnew worked for a credit union. They had been together for a year and a half, according to Levesque, and Agnew had been looking forward to the birthday trip to Mexico for a long time. She stated that Agnew wanted to see the Mayan ruins, which were included in their itinerary.

The aunt said that the last thing she told her niece was that she should come home safely.
