A man was seen stabbing another man over 30 times on surveillance footage taken inside a bus in Las Vegas, and despite the victim’s cries for help, the bus driver kept driving and refused to stop.
Following an argument on an RTC bus on February 26, 30-year-old Dominique Lucas was stabbed. Aaron Cole, 59, was charged with the crime.
The horrifying surveillance footage, which depicts the two men sitting close to one another before they began to argue, was shown to a Clark County grand jury.
A split second before Cole charges at him, Lucas tells Cole that he is not bothering him. Lucas moves toward the front of the bus and motions for the driver to open the doors so he can get off, appearing to be concerned about the situation and hoping to prevent it from getting worse.
The bus does not, however, come to a stop; instead, the driver keeps going. Cole approaches Lucas and repeatedly stabs him. Even as Cole continues to stab the passenger, who is screaming, the driver doesn’t stop.
The gruesome assault lasts for about four minutes. The bus doors briefly open for a moment before closing again.
After pressing the panic button, the bus driver asks Lucas, who has already been stabbed multiple times, if he wants to get off. Cole starts stabbing Lucas again.
The attack started at 4:50 p.m., and the bus came to a stop five minutes later, according to the police. At 4:58 p.m., the police showed up after the driver and the passengers fled.
After stumbling from the bus, Lucas died from his injuries. Cole remained on board the bus.
The bus driver claimed that because he was in the middle of the road and unable to stop the bus or get out to assist the victim, he did not open the doors.
The bus driver’s employer, Keolis North America, claimed that the driver didn’t open the doors because he wanted to avoid having a passenger run into oncoming traffic.
Ten days prior to the stabbing, Cole had been arrested for an unrelated assault.
