The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that they were called to the home around 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, after reports of gunfire erupted in a home in Douglasville, 20 miles outside Atlanta.
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office announced on Facebook that there was a house party with over 100 teenagers in attendance. The occasion was a sweet 16 birthday celebration. Some of the party guests, according to the homeowner, were smoking marijuana.
Near the end of the night, a fight broke out, provoking the shooting.
One of the neighboring homes was hit by a bullet, and the injured were scattered into neighboring yards.
Three of the injured were transported to hospitals by EMS, while the other three were transported to hospitals by bystanders.
Douglas police have made no arrests in connection with the fatal shooting and have stated that they are still looking into a motive for the attack.
Police have not released any additional information about the deceased teenagers, such as their names, ages, or causes of death. However, many teenagers in the neighborhood attended the party, and their parents posted on social media that the two deceased were teenagers.
One of the parents of one of the teenagers present posted on Facebook that the ordeal had psychologically damaged her, her child, and her child’s friends.
A neighbor who lives next door to the house where the shooting took place spoke to a news outlet about the incident. According to ABC affiliate WSB-TV, Aerial Gardner and her children were at home when they heard gunfire.
Gardner stated that when the shooting began, they took cover, and her children cowered on the floor, frightened.
