A 10-year-old Colorado boy, who was viciously attacked by a shark last month while on vacation in Mexico, was recovering in intensive care.
On March 17, Dillon Armijo reported to Denver7 news that a shark bit his leg while he and his family were on a beach in Cancun. He described the terrifying incident and claimed that five minutes after going to the water to swim or jump in the waves, a shark suddenly appeared in a wave and bit his leg.
Dillon was reportedly saved from the sea by a lifeguard, his mother, and his older brother. After staying in a Mexican hospital for four days, he was transported by air to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora.
After undergoing numerous surgeries, Dillon is anticipated to fully recover. Abby, the boy’s mother, told Denver7 that they were happy to be able to bring their son back to the US and have the last three operations close to where they lived.
Dillon will undergo extensive physical therapy and relearn how to walk.
Given everything he’s been through, Dillon’s mother said, he’s done well.
Attacks by sharks are frequent along Mexico’s stunning coastline. In January of this year, a great white shark beheaded a diver off the west coast of Sonora. It is believed the wetsuit-clad diver was mistaken for a seal.
