Actress Reese Witherspoon says she is shattered over her breakup with second husband Jim Toth. She says she never saw herself going through another divorce.
The 47-year-old Oscar-winning actress announced on Friday, March 24, that she and her husband of twelve years, Jim Toth, 52, are separating. The couple share a 10-year-old son named Tennessee.
Witherspoon is also the mother of two older children – Ava Phillippe, 23 and Deacon Phillippe, 19, from her marriage with ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillippe.
A source close to Witherspoon said that she was disappointed and upset over her second marriage ending because she hoped things would work out.
The source said that the split was amicable and that their son Tennessee was their top priority, adding that they would continue to co-parent without any intended drama.
Witherspoon and Toth’s relationship evolved quickly after they first met. According to the source, Witherspoon was crazy about him and about the attention he gave her and was very excited to marry him. However, the two were very different people, with Witherspoon being headstrong and focused and Toth being more laid back.
Reportedly, the decision was arrived at mutually.
Witherspoon and ex-spouse Phillippe, 48, began dating before they made their the 1999 movie “Cruel Intentions” together The couple married in June 1999 and had two children before announcing their separation in 2006.
Phillippe said during an interview that their divorce was the hardest period of his life.
Witherspoon also said the same thing during a 2014 interview on “60 Minutes.” She revealed it had been a tough year for her after her first divorce, and she spent the next few years trying to be happy.
She also said that the struggles in her personal life affected her career, adding that she was not feeling creative at the time.
After her first divorce, Witherspoon went on to date Jake Gyllenhaal, but they broke up in 2009. Witherspoon and Toth met at a party the same year and married in 2011.
