Kentucky Senator Rand Paul disclosed on Saturday, March 25, that a member of his staff had been brutally attacked on H Street in Washington, DC.
Senator Paul asked for prayers for his aide’s full and speedy recovery in addition to sharing the news that a suspect had been apprehended.
Phillip Todd, a 26-year-old employee, suffered head and chest stab wounds requiring surgery. He claimed he didn’t know his assailant.
The employee was stabbed multiple times, and the wounds were described as life-threatening by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Suspect Glynn Neal, 42, was apprehended following the attack on Saturday. Notably, he had been released from prison the day before the attack. He had served 12 years in prison beginning in 2011 for his involvement in a prostitution case.
Todd’s parents, Chuck and Helen, stated that their son was “randomly and brutally attacked by a person armed with a knife, who attempted to kill him. The intervention of our son’s friend helped prevent the wounds from being fatal.” Todd’s companion assisted in pushing the suspect off of him, and they were able to flee.
Todd suffered an internal brain bleed, a punctured lung, and a laceration to his left ear as a result of the stabbing.
Police were able to link the suspect, Neal, to a cell phone found at the scene, as well as a bloody knife found nearby.
