A harrowing event unfolded at a Lakeland, California McDonald’s drive-thru, leaving a woman from the Bay Area in critical condition.
On April 2nd, Rebecca Hyde and her boyfriend David Tomor stopped at the drive-thru of the popular fast-food chain for a meal, only to find themselves in a horrifying situation when a man in the car behind them grew increasingly irate over the delay in his order.
As the man frequently got out of his car to shout at Hyde and Tomor, a clash between him and Tomor broke out. The conflict intensified when the instigator pulled out a gun, causing a physical struggle between the two men. Both the man’s girlfriend and Hyde eventually joined in.
Following the scuffle, Hyde and Tomor drove away in their van, but the angry man pursued them and opened fire. Tragically, Hyde was struck in the neck, the bullet lodging in her jaw, while Tomor sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. Both victims were immediately transported to the hospital, with Hyde currently on life support.
In response to the incident, the Lakeland Police Department acted quickly and arrested 28-year-old Calvin Jordan Sousa at his residence later that day after the suspect barricaded himself at his home. Sousa now faces charges of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and firearm possession by a convicted felon.
The violent episode has left Hyde’s family and friends heartbroken. Tomor’s sister, Vanessa Tomor, spoke with reporters about the couple’s long-standing relationship, which began in their teens and resulted in two children. They were known for doing everything together and had a bright, love-filled future ahead of them.
