A man from North Carolina was arrested for the gruesome and demoniacal murder of his neighbor on Easter Sunday.
The victim, 35-year-old Laura Miller, was found mutilated and surrounded by salt and makeshift wooden crosses inside her apartment complex. Police arrested Miguel Gonzales-Rosales, 36, on Sunday, April 9, with blood and scratches on his face, allegedly having committed the horrific crime.
According to prosecutors, Miller’s face was unrecognizable. Gonzales-Rasalas is said to have used wire and cable to bind her. He slashed her from the neck to her stomach and cut off her tongue, which police found in the dining room. Responding officers found human tissue scattered throughout the entire apartment.
Police believe the assailant poured salt around Miller’s body, broke her table apart, and created three crosses, which he placed around her desecrated body before fleeing the scene in his victim’s car.
It was revealed that Gonzales-Rasalas and Miller knew each other and were described as acquaintances. Neighbors reported that the two often argued with each other, and the accused killer had previously shown up at Miller’s doorstep three days before the murder with a baseball bat and threatened to kill her.
Police quickly identified Gonzales-Rasalas as a person of interest in the murder, and he was arrested during a traffic stop. He is being charged with murder, desecrating a body, and stealing a vehicle, and he is being held without bond.
Miller’s family is struggling to come to terms with her brutal death, remembering her as a kind, caring, and sweet person who loved animals. Her uncle spoke with a reporter and described her as the “sweetest little girl.”
Mitchell Mackinem, professor of criminology and sociology at Wingate University, said such diabolical murders were rare.
Gonzales-Rasalas’ next court date is on April 19.
