A high school cheerleader was fatally shot after leaving a house party in Tolleson, Arizona, early Sunday morning.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after midnight, where they discovered the lifeless body of 17-year-old Desiree Rivas. Desiree, a student at Cesar Chavez High School, was highly regarded as an exceptional student and a vibrant member of the school’s cheerleading team.
The Cesar Chavez High School Spirit Line expressed their profound grief in an Instagram statement, conveying immense sadness over the tragic loss of Desiree. She was cherished as an outstanding friend, athlete, and student.
As the investigation continues, the police have not yet identified any suspects.
Neighbors recounted their harrowing experience of hearing gunshots and rushing to assist Desiree. April Stokes, who was in bed at the time, described the intensity of the shots, saying they were so loud that they sounded as if they were in her own yard. Another neighbor, who remained at the scene to provide support, shared her sleepless night of anguish for the grieving mother.
