One year after the sudden death of legendary actor Ray Liotta in May 2022, the cause of his passing has been disclosed.
Liotta was filming “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic when he tragically passed away.
A coroner’s report obtained by TMZ has revealed that Liotta’s death was caused by pulmonary edema, respiratory insufficiency, and acute heart failure, with atherosclerosis as an underlying issue.
Affecting approximately 50% of Americans aged 45 to 84, atherosclerosis is a slow-developing disease that often remains undetected until severe, according to the US National Institutes of Health. The most common symptom of the condition is painful muscle cramps in the hips and legs when walking, and it can also cause a “mini-stroke,” or transient ischemic attack.
Liotta’s sudden passing came as a shock to his family and fans alike. He is survived by his daughter, Karsen, and his fiancée, Jacy Nittolo, who were both with him on the movie set. In a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, Nittolo described the Goodfellas actor’s character as beautiful and their chemistry as “wild in the best way.” Just days before Liotta’s death, the couple was seen holding hands, cherishing each other’s presence until the very end.
In February 2023, Liotta was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During the ceremony, Karsen spoke on behalf of her father, referring to him as a “one-of-a-kind” actor and an extraordinary friend, brother, and father. She concluded her speech by emphasizing the significant impact her father had on those around him, stating that everyone deserves a “Ray” in their life.
