Ex-White House Lawyer Predicts Trump Prison Sentence

A former White House lawyer has predicted imminent legal trouble for former President Donald Trump.

Ty Cobb, who served as a US assistant attorney and member of Trump’s legal team from July 2017 to May 2018, anticipates that Trump could face imprisonment due to an ongoing investigation into his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Special Counsel Jack Smith is spearheading an investigation into allegations of criminal misconduct by Trump.

In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Cobb emphasized the substantial evidence against the former president, including Trump’s relocation of documents when they were demanded by the Department of Justice, false affidavits, and misrepresentations made on his behalf. Describing the case against Trump as “tight,” Cobb expressed conviction that Trump might end up in jail.

The investigations into Trump’s actions encompass various alleged offenses, including his involvement in the US Capitol riot, attempts at overturning the 2020 election results in Georgia, Stormy Daniels’ hush-money payment, and a tax fraud case filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The National Archives and Records Administration has also informed Trump that it will hand over 16 records to Special Counsel Smith, potentially providing additional evidence of Trump’s handling of classified information.

Cobb dismissed the idea that proving a violation of the Espionage Act is necessary, contending that there is already ample evidence of Trump’s mishandling of classified documents. Despite these claims, Trump continues to maintain his innocence in all ongoing investigations, asserting his right to share information under the Presidential Records Act.

Bill Barr, the former US Attorney General who served during the Trump administration, also voiced his belief that the case regarding classified documents represents a significant legal threat to the former president. Barr stressed that Trump had no valid justification for possessing those documents and could face serious consequences if any attempts were made to interfere with their return.
