Prince Harry and Prince William avoided public interaction during their father’s coronation, which took place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday, May 6.
William, now the Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, paid tribute to the King during the ceremony while dressed in a formal robe. He also participated in the royal family’s procession to Buckingham Palace.
Prince William and his wife Kate arrived at the Abbey with two of their children, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and five-year-old Prince Louis, and sat in the front row. Their eldest child, nine-year-old Prince George, participated in the ceremony as one of King Charles’ Pages of Honor and later joined his siblings for the return journey to Buckingham Palace.
On the other hand, Prince Harry did not have a role in his father’s coronation, so he sat two rows behind his brother at Westminster Abbey, dressed in Dior and wearing his military medals. He was seated with his cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice (Prince Andrew’s daughters), and their husbands. Harry did not join the royal family for their Buckingham Palace balcony moment.
Instead, Harry returned to California right after the ceremony in Westminster Abbey in order to be on time for four-year-old son Archie’s birthday party.
Meghan Markle, who was conspicuously absent from the celebrations, was invited to the coronation but declined due to her son’s birthday falling on the same day.
The two brothers were last seen publicly together at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September, and while many hope for a reconciliation, their relationship has been strained. In his bestselling memoir “Spare,” Harry referred to William as his “arch nemesis” and claimed he physically attacked him in 2019.
Since the funeral, Harry and Meghan have released a six-part Netflix docuseries. However, neither Kensington nor Buckingham Palace issued a statement or publicly responded after Harry’s book was published earlier this year or when the Netflix series debuted last year.
