An incident in Florida involving a gasoline tanker resulted in the death of one man and severe injuries to another following a fiery crash.
According to authorities and local reports, a 49-year-old man from Alabama died in the crash on Route 41 in Florida early Saturday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place at approximately 2:43 am on Saturday, May 6, in the southbound lanes of Route 41 in Hillsborough County.
A 23-year-old male driving a 2020 Kia Stinger collided with the victim’s gasoline tanker truck from behind. The tanker immediately exploded and hit a utility pole, causing the sedan to swerve off the roadway and overturn.
Images from the scene shared by the troopers showed a burned tanker truck on the road. The victim, who was driving the tanker truck, lost his life in the accident. The driver of the Kia sedan sustained severe injuries, but authorities have not yet provided an update on his current condition.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and the highway patrol later released a video showing two Dodge Chargers that witnessed the accident. The troopers requested that the drivers of those vehicles come forward and contact the authorities.
