A mother intentionally drowned one of her three daughters and attempted to kill another in a South Carolina residence before the oldest sibling intervened.
According to Beaufort County Sheriff PJ Tanner. Jamie Bradley Brun, 37, was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder following the attacks that took place early on Friday.
The horrific event unfolded when Brun’s 16-year-old daughter was awakened around 1:30 am on Friday, May 19, by her eight-year-old sister’s screams. Although the sheriff did not share specific details on how the mother attempted to drown her child, he confirmed that the distressing cries came from the bathroom. The teenager managed to rescue her eight-year-old sister from their mother’s clutches, then ran to a nearby relative’s house to call 911.
Sheriff Tanner praised the 16-year-old’s bravery in protecting her family. Deputies arrived on the scene eight minutes later and found Brun with her six-year-old daughter. Despite CPR efforts by officers and paramedics, the younger child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
During Brun’s arrest, it was revealed that she tried to grab a deputy’s firearm. Officers used a Taser to subdue her and take her into custody. Brun is currently being held without bond.
Fortunately, the eight-year-old child did not sustain significant injuries. She and her teenage sister are now in the care of other family members, according to Sheriff Tanner.
