2 Dead, 2 Injured in Domestic Dispute in Florida

On Wednesday, June 14, a domestic disturbance in southwest Florida resulted in the loss of two lives and left two people injured.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno confirmed that law enforcement received a call around 7 am reporting a disturbance at a home in Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers. Upon arrival, it was determined that a 45-year-old man, identified as Yohani de Lazaro, wearing a ski mask, had engaged in a confrontation with a woman inside the house. Subsequently, de Lazaro discharged a firearm within the premises.

Another man, identified as Danae Velazquez, and said to be the owner of the property, was present at the scene and subdued the gunman while a woman promptly contacted emergency services. De Lazaro was brought to the hospital with injuries and appeared in court to face charges after his release on Thursday, June 15.

The names of the deceased victims and the injured person have not been disclosed by authorities, who confirmed that the deceased were involved in a domestic relationship with de Lazaro. His significant other lived at the residence. The two children in the home at the time were unharmed during the incident.

While investigators have not released extensive information about the shooting, Sheriff Marceno mentioned ongoing legal matters related to the domestic relationship over ownership of the home. Court documents say that de Lazaro and Danae Velazquez Alvarez were in court recently regarding the dispute.  De Lazaro was due in court again at 9:00 am on the morning of the incident.

Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the shooting with the aim of gathering more information.
