A disturbing event unfolded during a funeral service for a 10-year-old victim of gun violence.

In the midst of a funeral service in Maryland for young Arianna Davis, shots were fired, resulting in two individuals being hit and one subsequently losing his life. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, June 6, at Washington National Cemetery in Prince George’s County.

Major David Blazer from the Prince George’s County Police held a press briefing. Officers were dispatched to the cemetery around 1:15 pm following a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered a man and a woman, both suffering from gunshot injuries. The male victim was declared dead at the scene.

The female victim, who is being treated for non-critical injuries, is in the process of receiving medical care. Major Blazer noted that the individuals involved in the shooting weren’t directly linked to the funeral service, suggesting that the violence stemmed from an unrelated disagreement. One suspect has been apprehended as investigations proceed to ascertain any potential connections. The identities of the victims and the suspected shooter remain undisclosed.

The memorial service was held for Davis, who succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound received during a family outing in Northeast Washington on May 13. She tragically passed away four days later on May 17.

Reflecting on the event, Chief Robert J. Contee III expressed his deep sadness, saying, “It breaks my heart. As long as we’re discussing deaths caused by illegal handguns in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them, there is still work to be done.”
