Three sisters were tragically killed in a head-on collision in North Carolina just a day before one of them was to celebrate her birthday, according to local authorities.
The victims were identified as Viola Medlin Singletary, aged 74, Gloria Medlin McCrimmon, aged 72, and Cheryl Elaine Medlin, aged 63. The fatal incident happened on Wednesday, June 7, on Highway 690 in Moore County when a 2023 KIA, traveling in the opposite lane, veered over the center line and collided with their silver 2010 Hyundai, according to State Highway Patrol officials.
The head-on collision resulted in the obliteration of the sisters’ vehicle and the death of the driver of the KIA. The youngest sister, Cheryl, would have celebrated her 64th birthday the following day. A passenger in the KIA, Suzanne Beasley, managed to survive the accident, but sustained significant injuries. She was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The crash occurred at around 10:59 am, when the unidentified KIA driver, allegedly traveling at a high speed, lost control on a bend, leading to the tragic collision. The sisters were on their way to pick up a truck as part of the preparations for Cheryl Medlin’s impending 64th birthday celebration. The family intends to hold a balloon release ceremony in her honor.
Suzanne Beasley’s cousin, Wayne Davis, happened to be on the road and witnessed the crash. He rushed to the scene to help, only to find his cousin among the injured. Davis recounted the scene, saying, “I hadn’t seen my cousin in eight years and there was blood around her face. I couldn’t recognize that it was my cousin.” The force of the collision caused the Hyundai to spin out of control, with engine debris hitting Davis’ work truck.
Investigation into the incident by the State Highway Patrol is ongoing, with initial findings indicating that the KIA’s excessive speed and erratic driving were contributing factors to the fatal accident.
