An elderly couple, who had just celebrated their 50th anniversary, were found brutally murdered along with the wife’s elderly mother.
The gruesome discovery was found in their Nonantum home, Massachusetts, on Sunday, June 25.
The victims’ identities have been withheld pending official notification of the next of kin. They were described by friends and neighbors as a caring and generous couple in their 70s of Italian descent, cherished in their community.
The alarm was raised around 10:14 am when a worried neighbor checked on the family. Police confirmed the victims showed signs of blunt-force trauma and stab wounds. Clear signs of forced entry pointed towards a potential break-in scenario.
The elderly couple had planned to renew their vows at the local Our Lady Help of Christians Church where they were devout parishioners. Their friend, retired Newton Fire Department lieutenant Jim Sbordone, described them as “fantastic Italian people who wouldn’t hurt a soul.” He added, “These were great people. This isn’t the type of thing that happens in the neighborhood. I hope it never happens again to anybody.”
Following the heinous crime, Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan, urged residents to secure their properties, review any potential surveillance footage, and report suspicious activity. Police Chief John F. Carmichael Jr. of the Newton Police assured residents of increased police patrols in the area as the investigation into the triple murder continues.
