Former CNN host Don Lemon expressed his unwavering commitment to truth and his refusal to provide a platform for “liars and bigots” during his first television interview since his departure from the network after being fired.
Speaking to a news outlet, Lemon emphasized his responsibility as a journalist and an American to uphold the truth and the principles of the Constitution. He said that he believes in advocating for what is right and in refusing to equate those who spread falsehoods and promote bigotry with those who adhere to the Constitution.
Lemon shared his belief that providing equal footing to people who deny election results, engage in insurrection, or propagate lies would be a failure of his journalistic duty. He credited his success to his commitment to the principles of the Constitution, particularly the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech and of the press. Regarding his future plans, Lemon indicated that he is in no rush to pursue a new opportunity and will not let others’ expectations dictate his timeline.
In April, Lemon announced his departure from CNN on Twitter, expressing his shock at not being informed directly by the network’s management after 17 years of service. The decision to let him go reportedly stemmed from a contentious on-air exchange with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Prior to his departure, Lemon was reassigned to a morning show after losing his solo primetime anchoring slot. He faced criticism for comments about women’s soccer and presidential contender Nikki Haley, and was obliged to undergo sensitivity training and issue an apology for his remarks.
While Lemon’s next career move remains uncertain, he insists that his dedication to truth and upholding the Constitution remains steadfast.
