Former Red Sox Player’s Son Commits Tragic Murder-Suicide

In an unfortunate event, the son of an ex-Red Sox first baseman is suspected to have taken his eight-year-old son’s life before ending his own recently in their home in Massachusetts.

During a welfare check around 8 am at the New Bedford residence of George Scott III, son of previous Red Sox player George Scott, the police uncovered what appeared to be a murder-suicide.

As per the Bristol District Attorney’s office, George Scott III, 54 years old, and his son, Dante Hazard, were found dead inside the house. Initial investigations suggest that Scott may have caused his son’s death before taking his own life. The medical examiner will provide specific details, including the method used.

George Scott III was the offspring of the ex-Red Sox standout George Scott, celebrated for his nine-year stint with the team during the 1960s and 1970s.

Neighbor Courtney Colombo voiced her surprise upon hearing about the event, characterizing George Scott III as a good neighbor. She remarked about occasionally spotting Dante playing outdoors.

In the weeks leading up to the murder-suicide, investigators had searched the residence in relation to the disappearance of Lisa Hazard, the mother of the young boy. Lisa Hazard has been missing since March 2019, and her case continues to be unsolved. George Scott III was considered a person of interest in the case.

George Scott III had expressed his intention to follow in his father’s footsteps in baseball and other activities. In an interview, he showed admiration for his father, George “Boomer” Scott, a former three-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove awardee who had a notable career with the Red Sox spanning 1966 to 1979.
