A newlywed man tragically drowned during his honeymoon in Hawaii.
Steven Phan, along with his wife Brittany, was enjoying their honeymoon in Honolulu on June 1 when the fatal incident happened. Phan went snorkeling at Electric Beach and sadly went under and never came back up.
A spear fisherman quickly responded to the situation, managing to pull Phan to the shore. On-the-spot bystanders started CPR and continued until the arrival of first responders, according to the reports. Sadly, despite their combined efforts, Phan was beyond revival.
In an appalling turn of events, thieves capitalized on the confusion and chaos to steal the couple’s personal belongings. Their mobile phones, wallets, cash, and even their rental vehicle were taken. The distressing incident was narrated on a GoFundMe page set up to provide financial support for Phan’s grieving widow.
In light of public outcry for better safety measures, Honolulu authorities have planned to put up a new lifeguard post at Electric Beach. This comes after community complaints regarding the lack of adequate emergency response personnel at the city’s beaches, sparked by the tragic loss of Steven Phan.
