Three people died while several others were injured in a car crash involving members of the same family.
The accident took place on Saturday afternoon, June 17, on Freedom Road, roughly 40 miles from Buffalo, New York.
Evan Klink, a 21-year-old, was behind the wheel of a Dodge truck when he drove into the oncoming traffic lane, crashing into a Ford hatchback driven by his older sister, Dahlia Klink, 24.
Two young passengers, Dahlia’s daughter, Molly Kibler, 6, and Havanah Lopez, 17, were pronounced dead at the scene. Dahlia didn’t survive her injuries and passed away on Sunday at Erie County Medical Center.
Following the accident, Klink was not seriously injured and was brought to the New York State Police Station in Warsaw, New York for further inquiry. Cameron Klink, 19, another occupant of the Dodge truck, sustained severe injuries and was flown to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
Another of Dahlia Klink’s daughters, who has remained unnamed, was also severely wounded and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
The incident’s cause is under investigation, with eyewitnesses saying the Dodge truck suddenly veered into the opposing lane. Investigators are probing Klink’s driving speed at the time and whether the accident was deliberate.
In collaboration with the county District Attorney’s office, the New York State Police are seeking a subpoena for a blood sample from Klink.
Social media posts from family members indicate that all the individuals involved in the accident were relatives.
To cover funeral costs, GoFundMe pages have been set up for the victims.
